Why
do you take cover in the dark when I open my heart?
Tip-toeing out of the shadows was a first start
I fell through a window with a different view
Until I landed on something I already knew
It
was a crush my head wouldn't hush
The grass seemed so much more lush
But it wasn't fertilized with trust
It was just a mirage of lust spreading in an open field
The sun beaming down yellow, yield, yield...
Don't put down your shield!
Cursing
me underneath your breath
Though the thought hasn't reached your tongue yet
Praising compliments with an inspired voice
Drowning out the background choice
Placing
a finger on your lips, I silence the chaos you spit
Something inflamed that was already lit
Crossword answers appeared complete
Can't erase the words we speak
Hold
me down or take my hand
Struggling we seize to balance and stand
Grasping doubt between upper or lower
Fumbling until the tug-of-war was over
Standing
tall like a poppy in the weeds
Picking off my petals until my stem bleeds
Keep cutting you out, but again you sprout
Facing once more the mourning light of doubt
Take
cover under something gray
Energy will project another ray
A balance of black and white
Will spotlight what is right...
